These include acute wounds such as split skin graft sites, post-operative wounds and traumatic wounds, as well as chronic wounds such as leg ulcers, pressure ulcers and non-infected diabetic foot syndrome. Biatain® Silicone Non-Border provides high absorption and retention of exudate under compression to reduce the risk of maceration and can be left on the wound for up to 7 days. Biatain® Fiber is a gel-forming fibre dressing consisting of sodium carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) and bicomponent fibres. The dressing is additionally reinforced by a thermofixed mesh in a stable hexagon shape. This is called HexaLock Technology®. On contact with wound exudate, the CMC fibres in the dressing absorb the exudate and form a dimensionally stable gel. The gelled dressing retains the exudate and moulds to the wound bed, creating a moist wound healing environment. This environment supports the healing process of the wound and facilitates the removal of avital tissue (autolytic debridement).
