The Bowie-Dick test pack was developed to test for air leaks, inadequate air removal and steam permeability in vacuum-assisted steam sterilisers and should be used daily before starting the first load of the day, after a steriliser has been installed or moved, after a steriliser malfunction, after errors in the sterilisation process and after major repairs to the steriliser. Initially, a shortened cycle (i.e., a cycle without a drying phase after the vacuum) should be run to properly heat up the steriliser.
After processing, the VERISURE™ Bowie-Dick Test Pack chemical indicator has a shelf life of 6 months under the recommended storage conditions.
