Extensor tendon injuries of the finger end parts are often treated with Stack splints. These splints offer a hyperextension of the injured finger part. The fixation is made using plaster strips or velcro band thus providing a firm fit. It consits of thermoplastic acrylic resin plastic which is perforated several times in order to improve the wearing qualities thus counteracting skin maceration. Above a flame (i.e. Bunsen burner) or in hot water a reshaping of the material is possible. The cap above the Phalanx media can be fixed with a Velcor band or strips. Despite the improvements using the splints it is advisable to cover the injured finger with a tubular bandage. We recommend wearing the splint with filt then maceration is not possible.
