In accordance with DIN EN ISO 11140-1 (Sterilisation of healthcare products - Chemical indicators), STERRAD™ Chemo indicators are classified as Class 1 process indicators. They are intended exclusively for use in STERRAD™ sterilisers to distinguish between medical devices that have already been sterilised and those that have not yet been sterilised.
The colour of STERRAD™ Chemo Indicators changes from red to yellow after exposure to hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). The intensity of the colour change correlates with the H2O2 concentration in the sterilisation chamber, which in turn depends heavily on the load level of the chamber, i.e. the quantity and material properties of the items to be sterilised.
The STERRAD™ Chemical Indicator Strips each contain a small orange-yellow comparison field and a note (in English) that the colour change from red to yellow must be at least this shade or a lighter shade.
