Optilene® Silver Mesh Elastic - the first polypropylene mesh with embedded silver ions. The antimicrobial properties of the embedded silver ions are designed to help reduce the risk of microbial colonisation and biofilm formation on the surface of the mesh. In vitro test procedures have shown that the nets with embedded silver ions can protect against net colonisation by E. coli and MRSA bacteria. The use of silver has been known to be effective for many years in other areas of medical care, e.g. for vascular prostheses.
