The closed, ready-to-use BD Nexiva™ IV catheter system minimises potential sources of contamination and reduces the risk of infection. The BD Vialon™ catheter material (biocompatible polyurethane) and the manipulation at a distance from the puncture site via the integrated tube extension enable a longer catheter dwell time. Mechanically induced phlebitis occurs less frequently. The passive cannula protection almost completely eliminates stab and scratch injuries. After removal of the cannula, the septum seals the catheter completely. The vein therefore does not have to be occluded. The closed septum prevents blood contact when removing the cannula.
