The closed, ready-to-use BD Nexiva™ IV catheter system minimises potential sources of contamination and reduces the risk of infection. The BD Vialon™ catheter material (biocompatible polyurethane) and the integrated tube extension, which allows manipulation away from the puncture site, enable a longer catheter dwell time. Mechanically induced phlebitis occurs less frequently. Passive cannula protection virtually eliminates puncture and scratch injuries. After removal of the cannula, the septum completely seals the catheter. The vein therefore does not need to be occluded. The closed septum prevents blood contact when removing the cannula.
